A while back, the talented Kristie Roeder of Artisan Clay asked me to create some special pieces using her beads. She wanted to use these as examples of what can be done with her work for her booth at Philadelphia Bead Fest this fall. Kristie had a good show and has returned these "samples" to me so that I can now offer them to you.

This one is admittedly a little over the top. But if jewelry can't be simple fun every now and again, what's the point ;)

Kristie's gorgeous cab is as blue as the blues New Mexico sky and it made me want to play...and so I created a cab around a cab: Several layers of stiff felt (in the middle) some ultra suede (on top) and some suede (on the back) provide the background to this doubly-peyote bezeled, off-center piece.

The delicas used are sterling silver plated. The nuggets in the chain are silver plated. The toggle clasp, crimp beads, crimp covers are all sterling silver.

This piece can be worn on the chain in 6 different placements (4 of which are shown in the mosaic shot at right). The medallion pendant could also be worn as an adornment on a belt, or with the addition of a carefully placed, large safety pin, it could serve as a brooch. The nugget necklace can be worn without the pendant as an impressive piece on its own as well.

Here's Kristie's description of how she creates her glass-fused pieces: "The Piece itself has been fused with Stained Glass during the Kiln-firing process. I have combined many kinds of glass (clear, opaque, milky, and different colors) The Glasses become liquid and bleed into each other in the kiln swirling ands blending at the edges. Finally as I cool the kiln the glass fractures and crackles but with a smooth glass top. The crackling refracts light and glistens in the sun."

Lavender and Orange Bargello Peaks and Valleys Peyote Cuff (2447)

I love playing with bargello needlework concepts using tiny seed beads and beadweaving. This is the first rendition of my latest bargello design: Peaks and Valleys

This beautiful asymmetrical piece will not only brighten any outfit you decide to wear it with, it will also make you the instant center of attention. Words can't convey just how lightweight and comfortable these beadwoven pieces really are. You've got to see for yourself!

I used Japanese delica beads in silver-lined satin orange, transparent orange, and ceylon lavender to create this piece with one-, two-, three-, and four-drop peyote stitches. The bracelet is just over 1.5" wide and 6.5". The closure adds a little more length so that this would be a very comfortable, not snug fit on a 6.5" wrist.

SIZING

While I cannot resize the piece listed, I can make one to custom fit you. Please provide your wrist measurement and whether you like a loose or tight fit in the message box. If you don't have a flexible tape measure, cut a 1" wide strip of paper to fit comfortably around your wrist and measure that. Please see my shop policies for turn-around times.

Romantic Rose - Rose Quartz with Peyote Bail (2425)

Summer may be on its way out, but you can keep the softest of roses with you year-round.

I took a simple 50mm rose quartz donut and gave it a not so simple peyote bail in transparent matte mist pink and cranberry. The pinks in this are such pale rose they seem almost as ephemeral as the blooms on the bush. But the fine line of cranberry keeps the pendant firmly grounded.

The pendant itself is 2.4" at its widest point and hangs 3" long. The beaded bail was crafted in peyote using Japanese delica beads.

I felt like playing with my extensive fiber collection and so I will include three (yes - 3!) different fiber ropes for you to tie to your desired length to show case the pendant: one in beautiful dark merlot, another in a soft pink (still darker than the pendant itself), and one in mix of purples, greys, and pinks.

Of course, you are welcome to wear this with some memory wire or on a chain or satin or velvet choker instead. Have fun. Play. Experiment.

Lemon and Chocolate Confection (2421)

Dessert for your neck! This is a serious piece of jewelry with a serious amount of fun, ready to take you from your work day to that special dinner party.

I created this piece by taking a beautiful wheel-thrown, glass-fused clay medallion created by Kristie Roeder of Artisan Clay. I wove a white, yellow, and brown, leather backed-bezel for it using peyote stitch. The pendant (including bail) is 2" wide and 2.5" long. The beadweaving gives the pendant both clean, crisp lines and sections of ruffles with great textures...much like an elaborately iced cake.

The peyote "sling" that I wove for the bail will accommodate several types of ropes or chains or cords, including the beautiful, slightly twisted, ndebele (herringbone)rope I created for it. The rope is 17" long when closed and has a simple beadwoven loop and toggle closure.

I used size 11 Japanese delicas and seed beads as well as tiny Japanese rocailles for the pendant. The beadwoven rope was created using the yellow delicas and bronze/brown seed beads.

Heavy Metal Simplicity - A Beadwoven Bracelet (2420)

While I have fallen short of my goal to introduce at least one piece a week in this new Sand Fibers line of Simplicity Bracelets, I haven't forgotten about the line: . . . smaller, simpler bracelets that are anything but boring . . . because no one should ever pay a penny for boring.

As its name suggests, this bracelet was woven with Japanese delica beads in two heavy metal colors: gunmetal and steel. The steel beads have a hexagonal cut, so they give an extra little punch. This little piece will take you from t-shirt to little black dress without hesitation! Imagine wearing a grouping of these!

I used tubular and flat peyote stitches to create this wrist adornment. The clasp even let me feed my addiction for peyote triangles ;D

From the tip of the triangle to the end of the beaded toggle, the bracelet measures just short of 8" and fits my 7.25" wrist snugly. It will easily fit smaller wrists.

Fiery Gotham Peyote Cuff (2417)

A dozen different beads in shades of black, grey, and silver create the granite-like base of this cuff. The red in the closure adds just enough fire to keep it interesting.

The cuff is done in basic 3-drop peyote stitch. The closure is a 3-d open triangle and toggle bead. The bracelet is 1.5" wide and and just over 6.25" long.

You can wear it so that the triangle closure is on the top of your wrist with skin exposed (see photos) or with beading underneath, or at the bottom of your wrist. It's all up to you and your mood.

This piece will work with anything from your conservative pinstripe business suite to your Friday night Goth party outfit to your jeans and sweatshirt for the Sunday afternoon football game. ;)

Modern Bargello Hearts Cuff in Your Custom Color Palette (2415)

I've always done custom work, but I've only recently started creating "generic" listings for custom-designed cuffs. We'll see what you think of this ;)

This listing is for a cuff using my Modern Bargello Hearts pattern. You get to pick the three (or two) colors we'll use and specify the length.

While I truly love my original bargello hearts cuffs, I wanted to create something with a slightly more modern, graphic quality to it. This piece is still based, but far more loosely now, on the pomegranate pattern for bargello needlework.

I will use Japanese delica beads in the colors of your choice to create this piece in 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-drop peyote stitch. At 2.3", this cuff is substantial. The closure consists of two beaded loops and toggles in the background color beads. The little heart near the loops provides a nice surprise when you see the underside. :)

Inspiration: One of my favorite things to do is to take a design from one medium and translate it into another. This brand new Sand Fibers pattern was inspired by a cotton print called Cubism Tiles (you can see an example of it on my blog at http://sandfibers.blogspot.com/2009/03/beading-away-in-anthony-ville.html ). It all starts out with a simple "What if?" and sometimes it results in something spectacular, like this cuff.

Striped and Fringed Beadwoven Magenta Triangle Pendant (2413)

This stunning beadwoven triangle pendant hangs from a simple cable choker. Nothing complicated here; everything fantastic. ;) This is definitely one of the most graphic pendants I have created in some time. Lots of impact! It somehow reminds me of a warrior's shield.

The sides of the triangle are 2.2" long, not counting the fringe. It hangs 2.5". While I love beading triangles, this is the first I've done not using my beloved peyote stitch. It was crafted in brick stitch using Japanese delica beads in opaque black and colorlined magenta.

The choker itself is a 16" black cable choker with a simple magnetic closure. No complicated clasp to hassle with. No obstacles for arthritic hands.

The pendant can easily be removed and worn with a sterling silver chain, leather, or ribbon...all depending on your mood.

Please note that the colors in the first photograph most accurately reflect the colors in the pendant.

Hello Dolly - A Beadwoven Raku Pendant with Necklace (2399)

This piece is not meant for wall flowers. You will not be able to hide in the corners or shadows when you wear this: it will instantly make you the center of attention!

It all started out with a gorgeous raku button by MAKUstudio. My photography sadly does not do this bead justice.

I used bead embroidery and peyote beadweaving to create a bezel with a handsome blue leather backing. The bail is one of my "trademark" inverted triangle bails (which is actually a folded over wonky square, but we won't go into that ;o). The entire pendant is 2.5" wide and just short of 3" long. A friend pointed out that the ruffles around the button and the bail echo the "rough" surface of the raku, a happy creative accident.

I used Japanese delica beads in silver lined zircon blue and tiny copper rocailles for the pendant. The beadwoven rope was created with the same delicas and with triangular copper beads, woven together using a twisted ndebele (herringbone) stitch. The rope is 16" long and finished with a peyote tube toggle and an oval peyote "circle." Unlike with most of my designs, I do not recommend trying to remove the pendant from the rope; damage to the bail could result.

You are my Sunshine 3-in-1 Necklace (2398)

Wear the best of summer year-round!

It all started out innocently enough with a wonderful sunflower raku cabochon by Lisa Peters. I love working with this artist's creations.

I used bead embroidery and peyote beadweaving to create a bezel and bail for this beautiful cab, resulting in a pendant that is 2.5" wide and 3" long. The blues and bronzes and yellows in the cab show must accurately in the close up photo of the cab (which was taken when everything was still a work in progress), so please take a minute to look at that more closely. The pendant is backed with midnight blue leather.

I used galvanized Japanese delica beads in a fantastic lemon yellow and tiny rocailles in "fancy blue" (read: the blue has a golden shimmer/halo to it) in both the pendant and the first of the two necklaces I made for it.

The beadwoven necklace/choker was made with both twisted ndebele and peyote stitches; the ndebele section is 12" long and the section of peyote circles is just over 5" long. As you can see from the photographs, the rope can be worn with the circles in back or by itself with the circles as the focal.

And because I love fibers and can never leave well-enough alone ;), I had to crochet some fibers together for a third look. I took three 24" crocheted chains of simply yummy yarns and knotted them together at both ends. (Just use a crochet hook to coax the fringe ends through the bail and pull gently. I'll even send you a hook if you don't have one; just let me know!) Come to think of it, this is really a 4-in-1 piece, because the crocheted necklace is pretty to wear on its own as well!

Bronze Simplicity - A Beadwoven Bracelet Twinset OR Choker (2397)
