This handpainted silk Artist Card Original is titled "Sometimes a Wing". It is both an original poem and artist card. Hand painted silk with luminous tones of blue and magenta, with natural silk cocoon husk and dyed silken fluff.

Cookpot Cassarole, with Lid and Handles, Mica Clay

This micaceous clay lidded vessel is a cook pot for simmering on your stovetop or baking in the oven (even a solar oven!). Because of the natural inclusions of mica and pumice from this native clay dug in northern New Mexico, this pot has a high thermal shock threshold and can be used as cookware for delicious chiles, stews and simmered soups and bakeware for casseroles, layered gratins and oven baked stews. Shapely handles on each side make this pot easy to lift.

Beautiful on its own, the elegant shape and glowing mica of this vessel will enhance a mantle or bookshelf in your home or office. The fire cloud on this pot offer a sharp contrast to the tawny orange terra cotta clay and mica stars.

This sparkling mica clay is handled with the utmost respect when it is hand-dug and prepared at Owl Peak Pottery Studio in La Madera, New Mexico.

I throw and trim my pots on my wheel, trim and smooth, apply several layers of mica slip, burnish it with a rock, fire it in my small natural gas kiln and finally, fire it in a wood pit fire. I make offerings and prayers with blue corn and white sage at every stage of the process of creating a vessel. Each vessel I've made seems to require from 8 - 10 hours of tender loving hands-on care, from clay to fired pot. It is signed with my potter's name Patch, and dated.

The fire clouds on this pot came from the final firing in a wood pit fire, when the burning wood makes contact with the clay wall of the pot. Each fire cloud is unpredictable, a true gift of the fire. This cook pot has beautiful fire clouds at the rim and around the body.

This clay is unlike any other clay I've known during my forty years as a potter. The mica has a healing quality, neutralizing the acids in foods cooked in it. "Foods cooked in micaceous clay pots taste better!" This clay has been used for cooking vessels for over 900 years in the Southwest. Mica has been used in Native American medicine bags for protection and thwarting negativity. I find its energy signature to be of an angelic being, named Micah, who has accompanied me on a recent healing journey.

Caring for your mica pot: I have seasoned this cook pot with a coating of virgin olive oil then baked it in my oven at 350 degrees for 40-60 minutes. Seasoning can change the color of the pot, but not dramatically. The color will become richer and more textured with use. Seasoning increases the life of the pot, seals it, makes cleaning easier, and enriches the flavor of food. Use only warm water and a soft brush or sponge to clean your pot. Soap will remove the seasoning. Avoid allowing water to sit in your vessel (or your vessel to sit in water) for any extended period of time. Wooden or bamboo spoons are kinder than metal to the interior surface. Re-season occasionally.

Blessing Bowl "Calico"

Food can be a sacrament when cooked with Love, and served in Beauty. Holy Food deserves a mica clay blessing bowl. An elegantly shaped bowl luminous with mica and blessed with magnificent fire clouds, where no glaze chemicals were used. The clay is a tawny russet, infused with a constellation of mica stars. The smoke patterns from the final pit fire, are called fire clouds. A mica blessing bowl is mesmerizing as you gaze into the starry universe of its interior curve.

I have two of these bowls available at this time, each with a different fire cloud pattern. This listing is for "Calico". I named it Calico because it has three definite colors: tawny orange, smokey black and a golden glow. One of the fire clouds on the side seems textured like fur. It is a wonder to behold.

Use your blessing bowl as a "one bowl meal" of salad, soup, chile, pasta and rice dishes, or for serving veggies or fruit. Mica clay is said to make food taste better. Because of its alkaline qualities, it balances the acids in foods, which is key for a healthy diet. Eating meals from mica pottery has changed my whole approach to food. Holy clay creates holy food.

Each fire cloud is unpredictable, a true gift of the fire.

Moonlight Yule Tree Fused Glass Earrings with Sterling Silver

A pair of silvery holiday trees float on deep garnet red glass with a tiny crystal star shining on top. Hanging from sterling silver earwires, these dichroic yule trees shimmer from moonlit silver to swirls of indigo and aquamarine. They have tiny patterned green trunks.

I cut each piece of glass by hand, arrange them carefully with tweezers, place them in my tiny kiln and fire to about 1500 degrees, then let them cool slowly for a strong annealing. Each pair of earrings is a true original, where the colors of the glass shimmer with unique colors. The deep garnet red glass will glow when lit from behind (if you have short hair they will dazzle).

Custom Order Pottery of Terra Cotta Mica Clay

New Mexico mica clay is holy clay, infused with natural mica that glitters when burnished. I have been a potter for forty years, and finally I have found a clay that speaks to my spirit.

Breast Cancer Clan Mother of the One Breasted Women

Breast cancer has created a new clan of women who stand by one another as they encounter the fears, decisions and challenges of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. In the company of this tender sisterhood emerges a new Clan Mother for all women who have lost a breast, or two, to cancer.

This ceramic sculpture was created from paperclay, a combination of recycled clay and paper, glazed and fired to 1800 degrees and painted with ceramic enamels, then refired. Clan Mother wears a crown of pink glass butterfly beads, crystals, golden spirals and dichroic glass earbobs. Her missing breast is honored by a spiral of tactile dots. Some of my customers tell me that they use their Clan Mother as a keeping place for healing affirmations and prayers, placing letters and wishes inside the hollow of her body.

The 'clan of the one-breasted women' comes from Terry Tempest Williams' wonderful book *Refuge*, where Terry tells the story of the women in her family.

More about "Namaste'"

Pronounced nah-mah-stay', Namaste' is a traditional greeting translated as "The divine within me greets the divine within you." The gesture NAMASTE represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra, acknowledging the soul in one by the soul in another.

NAMA means �bow�

AS means �I�

TE means �you�.

Therefore, Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to You."

To perform Namaste, we place the hands together at the heart charka, close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then bringing the hands down to the heart. This is an especially deep form of respect. Although in the West the word "Namaste" is usually spoken in conjunction with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies Namaste, and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing.

We bring the hands together at the heart chakra to increase the flow of Divine love. Bowing the head and closing the eyes helps the mind surrender to the Divine in the heart. One can do Namaste to oneself as a meditation technique to go deeper inside the heart chakra; when done with someone else, it is also a beautiful, albeit quick, meditation.

Namaste allows two individuals to come together energetically to a place of connection and timelessness, free from the bonds of ego-connection. If it is done with deep feeling in the heart and with the mind surrendered, a deep union of spirits can blossom.
