L'esprit de l'escalier - 8"x10" Signed Fine Art Photography

L'esprit de l'escalier, or "the wit of the staircase", is an expression for when you think of the perfect thing to say after the conversation is over. I'm sure we've all been there. :)

The expression originates from an eighteenth century writer who found himself in such a predicament. The architecture of the place was such that when you were at the bottom of the stairs, you had effectively left the gathering. This staircase in a sixteenth century monastery reminded me of this.

The second photo shows how the print might look matted. Yours is unmatted.

Anais Nin Matchbox Collage Keepsake - Dreams Are Necessary to Life OOAK

This is a one of a kind keepsake matchbox featuring the Anais Nin quote "Dreams are necessary to life."

The outside is decorated with handmade hunter green paper with the quote on the top and a copper face charm. On one side the word "Experiment" has been added, with the edges burnt to add character. On the other side is the phrase "Flights of Fancy", also with burnt edges. On the back of the box is a picture taken from an art catalog of a stained glass dove spreading its wings.

The inside drawer has been wrapped in vintage sheet music and I've added the silk from milkweed flowers. You can add a small gift to sit in the silk or let the precipient add their own treasure.

The box is very sturdy and has been decoupaged and sprayed with clear coat fixative. I spent a lot of time and care on this and enjoyed making it. It measures 2" long by 1.5" wide.
