Santorini Caldera, Greece- Affordable Original Oil Painting of Greek Island

Maybe there is no other place in the WORLD that looks like Santorini! It is like a dream--- the summer sky is such a pure blue, with nary a cloud. As the sun moves over the water, at times the sea is so bright you cannot look for long!

This is the largest natural Caldera-- "harbor" in the world, formed by a massive earthquake. That quake formed a volcano that you can walk on in the middle of the caldera.

This is part of PASSPORT PAGES series. Originally I was going to have more "stamps" included but as this evolved- the destinations became more important-- although the passport "page" and color is still represented.

I was getting over knee surgery and standing in front of the wall where I had ALI up there-- working it and working it trying to get his likeness and image when BLAM--

HE KNOCKED ME OUT!

No lie! I took ONE step back to look at my last paint strokes- the knee was wobbly- and CRASH!

But I got up and WENT THE DISTANCE!

(Had to be rushed to the doctors in between to make sure I didn't break my leg which ended up strained but Ok.)

I want ALI to go to a person who really loves him!

Carl Sandburg/ Silver WInd/ original art - landscape - painting

This framed oil (with an acrylic base on canvas)- was inspired by the late great Carl Sandburg, whose last home is only 3 miles from our studio. http://www.nps.gov/carl/

The first and last few lines of his poem, "Silver Wind" is written in calligraphy over the pond in front of the home.

A bust of Carl was painted with him looking more like the passionate author he was -than in later years.

The park is free to enter with a fee to view the inside of the home. The rolling trails are a favorite walk for visitors and folks who live in Flat Rock. The farm, and goats, and landscape make it a treasured destination in Henderson County, NC. http://www.historichendersonville.org/
