I usually do a year-end retrospective thingy on my regular blog , but my December was a little crazy what with the craft show at the beginning of the month and the number of dog tags I made. I am more than a little thankful that our families decided to have a low-key Christmas because I had no time (or inclination) to make even one more thing last month.
And in fact, I've been laying low, taking a bit of a break for the past few weeks. I have orders trickling in still, and I continue to work on those, but I haven't made anything new since my Here Comes the Sun Earrings . I'm ok with that, though.
As part of my year-end break, I spent last weekend officially getting registered with the state and my city (I kept putting this off), and doing my accounting for 2008 taxes, which are due later this month. I am pleased to say that Anandi's Laboratory is in the black (if just barely) for its first full year of operation. Now, that might be sort of cheating, because I haven't tallied up all of the supplies I bought in 2007 in preparation for this venture, and boy was 2007 a banner year for supply-buying. But I'll pretend like I'm ahead, for now :D
Looking ahead to 2009, I made some resolutions, like I always do. But this time I was smart enough to keep them simple, and have only a few, to ensure success. I spent a few hours at my local Starbucks on Jan 1, writing them up while I enjoyed my grande, 1-pump, nonfat chai. (Yes, I'm high maintenance like that.)
My goals this year are simple:- Mindfully plan my meals and eat at home most of the time. Eat less processed yucky food. (I'm looking at you, high fructose corn syrup!)
- Maintain a balance in my life. Don't get so wrapped up in one thing that others get neglected. (This is a hard one for me.)
- Spend at least 20 minutes a day getting some kind of exercise.
I know, nothing earthshattering here. But they're goals I've had literally every year, and I haven't succeeded in making them stick. What is that Japanese proverb - "Fall seven times, stand up eight."? That's why I keep trying.
What about you, do you believe in resolutions? Wanna share? Post about it in your blog and link back to it in the comments.
