No matter how cold it is outside or how slow one feels coming out of winter hibernation, it is hard not to feel energized and inspired by the arrival of spring. There is a certain pleasant busyness in the air as the birds start preparing for mating and nesting, and dormant plants begin to sport new buds. Increasing hours of sunlight have a rejuvenating effect.
After a two month rest, the warmth of spring is melting my creative freeze; I think I am finally waking to new crafting possibilities. I am re-learning to knit after a very long hiatus. My spinning wheel is seeing more use that it did all last year. Thanks to a visit from a teacher from the Weaver's Guild of Boston, I am finally putting the second hand floor loom I purchased last year into service. It's been a 16-year dream of mine to learn to weave and I am finally beginning that adventure. Further onto the weaving path, I have acquired a rigid heddle "knitter's loom," which works as a simple table loom, on which I hope to explore the ins and outs of plain weave using both hand spun and commercial yarns. Not to neglect my beads and wires, I am in the process of reevaluating my jewelry-making process and the designs I offer, to see if these align with my goals and ideals. More on that later as my thoughts gel on that subject.
The blossoming of spring here in The Village promises much inspiration to fuel the expanding of my creative horizons. Perhaps you've noticed a little herald of the season has arrived in my shop in the form of a sprightly Leprechaun named Shy Seamus. His cheerful green attire is so in keeping with the dominant color of spring. Seamus has been hopping from shop to shop in The Village nudging you to follow him in the First Annual St. Patrick's Day Scavenger Hunt.
Between March 10 and 17, visit The Village shops to find where Seamus has left his picture. He will be on the each shop's main page somewhere. When you find him, write down the name of the shop and send your shop list to Starry Home Crafts by midnight PST on March 17. She will contact the winner. The person who finds the most pictures will receive one of alyson2's adorable Sock Monkey Portrait Pillows. If there is a tie, the names will be put in a drawing. The name of the winner will be announced on The Village Market blog.
Good luck following Seamus as he scampers away! He's fast and he might be hiding anywhere, so keep your eyes open. Enjoy the sights and sounds of spring in The Village as you explore all the lovely shops there.
