Gabriella DeLawey OOAK Doll Art

Welcome. Gabriella DeLawey Doll Art is a shop devoted exclusively to art dolls. I strive to create original one-of-a-kind dolls that are whimsical, tell a simple story, and bring a smile to the viewer's face. Each doll is unique, and no two dolls are ever alike because I never make the same doll twice (due to a very active imagination).

I use non toxic air drying stone and paper clays for the sculpted sections of the dolls, such as the head and hands. The faces are painted on with either acrylic wash or watercolor then covered with a polymer varnish for protection. The bodies are made of 100% cotton and stuffed with Polyfil fiber. Some dolls require a hard armature for stability while others are designed to sit.

I use recycled fabric, designer fabric swatches, vintage finds, as well as specially purchased pieces for costume materials. Hair is made from either dyed Tibetan lamb's wool or Alpaca roving.

Doll making is challenging work requiring the use of both sides of the brain to be successful and well done. Doll making more than any of the other mediums I also work in gives me the greatest satisfaction and provides the most fun!
