Dahlia Cloche, Black Felt & Green Embroidery

Description

I made this glamorous hat entirely by hand. I started by steaming and blocked the black velour felt on antique wooden forms. I brushed the outside of the felt and then stitched a wire inside the brim for structure and sketched my embroidery design in chalk. The embroidery was done using cotton and wool embroidery thread in shades of green from olive to chartreuse. I used several different stitches, including French knots and stem stitch. To complete the hat I sewed a grosgrain band into the interior.  

This hat has an interior measurement of 23 inches. This is a size 7 3/8 and is suitable for a large head.
