Soft Raku Dreams (2340)

Description

I proudly present Soft Raku Dreams: a bead and fiber necklace to wear when you want to reflect your softer (yet still so very strong!) side.  

I have a confession to make: I have been hoarding some wonderful raku fired beads and buttons by Lisa Peters Art. I love just sitting and looking at them, handling them. Only a few of these have found their way into finished pieces like this one. I promise to work on reducing my stash for your enjoyment!  

This piece began with a magnificent 1.5" raku bead with a matte finish that includes deep warm copper colors. I created a peyote beaded encasement for it using matte copper as well as pink lined delicas and tiny rose colored rocailles with an AB finish. I topped that with a two-tier beaded peyote tube bail that lends the piece a certain Oriental aesthetic.  

The pendant measures 1.75" x 2.75". To showcase its soft rose and copper tones, I created an elaborate 32" fiber necklace by braiding four separate elements together:  

1. Two different 6-strand cotton DMC floss colors and a metallic machine embroidery thread crocheted together into chain.  

2. Size 15 rocailles strung on fireline  

3. One color 6-strand rayon DMC floss crocheted into chain.  

4. 2-ply specialty yarn crocheted into chain.  

The necklace can be tied to whatever length srikes your fancy on any particular day...from choker to opera length, depending on your mood.  

I set out to create a memorable one of a kind piece of wearable art. I believe I succeeded.
