Long Iolite and Labradorite Earrings in Silver

Elegant earrings in the magical stones of iolite and labradorite. These are stones that light up and change color as the angles of light or viewpoint change. Needless to say, these wonderful qualities make them very hard to photograph well. All the stones in these earrings are beautifully faceted and the large briolettes are a particularly nice quality. Earrings are just over 2 inches long from the top of the earwire. The stones are wrapped in fine silver wire to a sterling silver chain and hang from sterling earwires. Fine silver is 99.9% silver, and sterling silver is 92.5% silver. Lumina handmade jewelry is shipped in a pretty gift box, see bottom photo.

Iolite (the 2 large briolettes and some of the smaller stones) is extremely "pleochroic," which means it appears different colors depending upon which direction the stone is viewed. It can appear blue, blue-gray, and gray-yellow or slightly green. It has also been called 'water sapphire' because it looks very much like a blue sapphire.  

Labradorite displays flashes of color play called "labradorescence" (also referred to as "flash") depending upon how a ray of light enters the stone. The gray stones show sparkling flashes of blue, violet, and sometimes green, yellow, and even orange. The stones in these earrings show a predominantly blue flash.
