It is not yet February 14, and in 2010 we are caught up in horror of the catastrophe in Haiti. So first I hope people will continue to support the brave, innocent people who need our love. And our support. And while our own country still suffers from record unemployment ... can we talk of Valentines Day?

Why Not? We show our love in many ways, and many of us can give to Haitian Aid and do a little something for Valentines Day, for the dear ones close to us. Let love be in the air in all these ways!

New York Festival is promoting Love Is In The Air for Valentines Day Have a look!

Or the tag, ny valentine

It is a collection of Valentine Gifts from the wonderful artisans of New York Festival Market.

Book Review, The Artist's Way

The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron is more of a course than it is a book. Julia is aiming to unblock the creative mind. Her book is full of suggestions and exercises to help an artist connect with their creative child inside. She takes the stance that somewhere there is a higher force to accept and connect to. God, Mother Nature, Kharma, Serendipity, whatever you choose to call it. There are two main exercises throughout the book. One is called an artist date, just you and your inner child going to a museum, a movie, a hike in the woods, something that you will enjoy and be inspired by. The other very important exercise is called morning pages. In these, you fill up three pages with whatever comes to mind. Each exercise in the book leads to an understanding of one aspect of your life as an artist.

I have to admit, when I started reading the book, I thought, "Oh no, this is a 12 step self help program, definitely not for me". But somewhere along the way, I got hooked. I found myself actually writing up a contract and committing to 12 weeks of mind breaking exercises. I fought the morning pages at the start, but soon learned how to focus my whole day through them. I could start out the page with a negative thought and somewhere along the way, the silver lining would shine through. By the end of the pages, I'd have my creative day planned out. I was not a blocked creative to start with, but this book still helped me to focus my artistic side and admit to it in a way that I may not have done before. I highly recommend it.
