Our spotlight seller at the Homefront is the newly returned Deb and her shop is Lilac Ave. I have gotten to know Deb pretty well through the Homefront. She is a very caring person and always a joy to have around. She is a Navy wife and mommy of 2. Fresh off her latest military move and back up and running here on 1K Markets. I have always loved her shop you cant help but feel the calm that the look exudes. Deb's candles and tarts are all so delicious. The scents are all wonderful and with the perfect balance of strength without being overpovering. Recenlty she has become more dedicated with her life and her shop to the green movement. I absolutely love the upcycled jar candles that she has in her shop. I look forward to seeing what else Deb has in store for the shop and so excited about her future here on 1K Markets and the Homefront.
1. What is the significance of your store name?
Our first house was on Lilac Ave. It was in a lazy southern neighborhood with covered porches and dogwood trees. I felt like this cozy, laid back, beauty, was the "feel" I wanted to set for my shop.
2. What or who is your inspiration?
Wow! I am inspired by nearly everything...nature, containers, scents, friends. I feel like I get ideas all the time, from surprising places.
3. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
Probably the tarts. I love the way that fragrance spreads around a home with a tart. My current favorite scent is Ginger Peach. It is fruity without being sappy.
4. What are your favorite materials to work with?
I love soy wax. It is easy to work with and I love the beauty of it as it dries into a beautiful white surface. And I'm still exploring all of it's properties and what is can do.
5. What distinguishes you from your peers in the artisan world?
I am very concentrated on being "green" in this shop. So I am trying to make very concious decisions on the supplies (like the recycled grocery bag labels), and even when it arrives to you, the box and packaging will be recycled. Plus soy is a natural substance that is renewable (versus paraffin), and the hemp wicks are from nature as well.
6. Is there another artisan on 1000 Markets that you admire?
This is a difficult question. I truly adore the products of other homefront team members, and as I look around this site, I see AMAZING artisans. It's uplifting to me that so many people have at least one talent that can create such an incredibly beautiful product. I admire that we are all brave enough to start a small business, and I admire that we all believe in buying handmade.
7. What are your plans for the future of your shop?
In coming weeks there will be a new Collection called "Things that Make your House Look Fabulous". This section will be filled with organic and upcycled home decor, including pillows, vases, and knick knacks.
8. Anything else you'd like to tell us?
A year and a half ago, I found online selling of handmade crafts. Since then it has changed my life. Every gift I buy, or home decor I need, I try to buy handmade. It somehow goes hand in hand with buying local, and supporting individuals and not conglomerates. I LOVE this whole world of handmade and unique style.
