Original oil painting. This is a new painting inspired by Itzhak Perlman's recording of Sarasate's violin fantasy which is based on themes from Bizet's opera, 'Carmen.'

I saw Perlman play when he was in his 30's and the concert was fabulous, especially for me since I'd studied violin as a child. If you've never heard him, please get his 1981 CD 'Greatest Hits' and find yourself entranced!

This original 2010 painting is oil on canvas panel and measures 9" x 12". Signed and dated on the front and back.

I made this panel myself - the masonite backing is rigid and heavier than most commercial panels. The painting is sold unframed.

“I respond to what catches my eyes and heart, drawing and painting with colors, shapes and lines. Charcoal, pastel, graphite, colored pencil, ink, acrylic or oil paint are utilized on various papers, wood, or canvas. I capture life and simple pleasures applying rhythmic patterns and geometrics in translucent layers. I personify nature through color and movement evoking moods of transition, strength, joy and serenity. I use a symbolic visual language exploring the visible and invisible creating a commentary on relationships and thoughts. As I work the images can be unexpected flowing from gathered memories. Within the placed pigment I enhance my perceptions of faces, animals, cities or fauna to share them with the viewer. In Afghanistan (An Original Painting for Peace)

In Afghanistan is part of my "Issues of Our Time" series. It is a based on a photograph in an exhibit by Afghan women university students, 2005. The photo shows that Afghan women are not forced to wear the Burqa and can travel without a male family member, such as on this remote village road. But Taliban and religious terrorist rule has influenced women to cover their faces with a Chadar (scarf). Before, women would only cover their heads, not their faces.

I had permission to use the photo as a basis for my painting from the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), which sponsored the exhibit.

This painting is 20 by 20 inches, gallery wrapped on heavy duty stretchers, with painted sides, so a frame is not necessary. The painting is signed and dated on the back. The Lagoon Nebula is part of my "Abstracts and Nebulas" series. As in all the nebulas, I get to work with color and form as in an abstract painting, but within a realist context.

The Lagoon Nebula is in the southern constellation Sagittarius; and can be seen with the naked eye or binoculars. It is considered to be among the finest and brightest star-forming regions in the sky. A huge cloud of interstellar matter, it is undergoing active star formation. The central parts are extremely bright; and it is so large that this painting represents only a small part of the nebula. I am smitten with the GLORY of the nebulas

An aside about this painting is that this is the second time I have attempted this. The first painting was stolen from my rack before it was completely finished, and I started all over again. Watch for the imposter.

Returning From Murano is part of my "Inspired By Italy" series. We were on the Vaporetto returning to Venice after visiting the three islands tourists go to see. The sun was setting, and the world was enchanted.

This is 14 inches high by 24 inches wide, acrylic on stretched canvas, and framed. The framed dimensions are 15 inches high by 25 inches wide. The shadow frame cuts nothing off the picture, which appears to float.
