Final Update! I traveled north and Rachel traveled south to San Luis Obispo. We had a reservation at a creekside bistro, Nova, and what fun to finally meet one another after nearly a year of rubbing virtual shoulders at 1000 Markets. I carried RubyFruit in a basket with her journal and the ribboned cards that were tucked into her mailing box. Rachel brought her husband Bill, who turned out to be a market member of mine. I have admired Bill's dolphin paintings from the first time I saw them. It was a magical meeting, with the creek flowing beside our table, and huge sycamores and oaks surrounding us on the deck. When I handed Ruby's box to Rachel, I was ready with my camera.

Other folks eating lunch around us were enchanted by the Ruby, and Rachel's modeling. The food was sublime, and the conversation was better. We didn't stop talking for three hours. Our noon lunch morphed into a mid- afternoon coffee circle, and reluctantly, at 3:30 we parted.
I can only imagine what Rachel will be adding to RubyFruit.....and what RubyFruit will be adding to Rachel!
Dreamcoat #4 RubyFruit I'm working on my third dreamcoat from Bohemia Esprit's Sisterhood of the Traveling Dreamcoats. RubyFruit is stunningly regal. Imagine seeing her in my studio, her rich ruby and dark purple blue hues created by Diana of DieDianaDye.

Her collar/yoke is a complex patchwork of fabric and netting, with charms, keys and beautiful buttons tucked within, crafted by Laura of Timmi.

Then slowly walk around to view the back neckline to see the beautiful beadwork of TheBeadedLily (Sarah), a medicine wheel of grace and power.

What could possibly be added to this marvelous coat? For a couple of days I waited to see what she would ask of me. Yesterday I heard a whispering from her.........pockets. This morning I rooted through my fabric closet and pulled out my bag of recycled velvets, and found the perfect shade of deep blue. I thought about patch pockets on the front, but something didn't feel right. It occurred to me that the pockets should be within the side seam (which was still open, waiting to be sewn) so that the tactile surprise would be delayed. Imagine wearing this royal garment, and slipping your hands into the hidden side seam pockets to find the soft touch of velvet surrounding your hands.

When the pockets were stitched and the side seams completed, I found a small scrap of velvet, cut it into a heart and attached it to the left sleeve. Abby (abbyhorowitzdesigns) had a dream about a dreamcoat 'wearing your heart on your sleeve', so I took a hint from her, and embroidered a golden path around it.

I repeated the same embroidery pattern (I call it "chicken walking") around the pocket stitching.
For a day or two RubyFruit has been shining. I'm pretty sure I'm finished with my part...and will be meeting the famous Rachel who lives relatively close, for a passing on of the dreamcoat. When we settle on a day and time to meet sometime next week, I'll take photos and share them.
Update #1: RubyFruit rolls on to Rachel tomorrow. I just finished the journal that will accompany her in her journey. Photos will be taken of our lunch date creekside in San Luis Obispo, when I give her to Rachel.
